Rashard Mendenhall isn't terribly bright

In regards to this Monday Night's upcoming football game, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie runningback Rashard Mendenhall shot a text message to fellow rookie, and Baltimore Ravens tailback, Ray Rice.  In it, Mendenhall told his buddy he would have a big game against the Ravens' D.  Fairly tame, you might think incorrectly.

Bart Scott, how do you respond to Rashard's comments?

"'He said later that he was just joking, but it's too late,' Ravens linebacker Bart Scott said. 'Thanks for the bulletin-board material, rookie.'"

I needn't remind any Steelers fans why they should be afraid of Bartholomew Edward Scott.  But I'll do it anyway.

You see, this is why it's so much fun rooting for the Baltimore Ravens!  Forget the fact that we haven't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 21 games (the longest active streak in the National Football League).  Forget that we rank first in total defense this season (161.5 ypg), first in passing yards (91.5), and third in rushing yards (70.0).  Forget that we've had a Top-10 total defense the past five years straight (and in eight of the past nine seasons).

Forget all of that.  Because now, all anyone on that Ravens defense cares about is lighting up Rookie Rashard Mendenhall like a Chevy Chase Christmas tree.  Just think:  Edward Reed might build up enough speed from that comfy free safety position to successfully run his entire body through a Steeler player's body before that Steeler player hits the ground.  And want to know why Ray Lewis wasn't asked about Rashard's comments?  He's probably having his cutlery sharpened in preparation for Monday Night's game.

As a fan of Baltimore Ravens Football, these are exciting possibilities to consider!  Oh, and Kudos to Ray Rice for blabbing to his teammates about Rashard's comments.  Well done, sir!
